Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows (BFTF) Summer Institute

For students (age 16-18) interested in meeting young people from Europe, Eastern Europe, and Eurasia with an interest in learning more about transatlantic relationships, democracy and civic engagement.

The Department of Communication at Wake Forest University is offering 10 Scholarships for American students to attend the 2017 Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellows (BFTF) Summer Institute. These Scholarships include the following:
-
$3,500 scholarship; Designation as Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellow (covers tuition, activities, meals and lodging in WFU dorm, and partial travel funds to and from WFU)

Participation in all Institute events, including classes on: Citizenship, Comparative Constitutionalism, Social Entrepreneurship, New Media, Public Advocacy, all taught by Wake Forest University and visiting faculty.

Seven day educational trip to Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia, PA, including a visit to the State Department, The Washington Center and several sites including the Newseum in DC and the Constitution Center in Philadelphia.

Civic engagement activities, local community service projects and workshops on public advocacy.

The U.S. Fellows would join about 45 Fellows on the Wake Forest University campus for a month-long Institute. The international Fellows are from over 40 countries ranging from Armenia to Iceland, Denmark to Kosovo, Malta to Lithuania. Applicants must be U.S. Citizens and 16-18 years old.

Cornell Pre-College Summer Programs
-
Two three-week sessions (June 24–July 15 and July 16–August 5, 2017) and one six-week session (June 24–August 8, 2017) in a wide variety of subjects, including architecture, art, design, and fashion; business, hospitality, and leadership; college success and English for speakers of other languages; debate and literature; engineering and robotics; government, history, and international relations; psychology, research, and science; social change and sustainability; and veterinary medicine and animal science. Students can also create their own six-week program.

Duke Summer Academies

Spend your summer at Duke’s Global Giver Academy and become a bona fide philanthropist. You will have the opportunity not only to learn the ins and outs of philanthropy by earning community service hours at local charities, but also the chance to engage in advocacy firsthand. As an acting “board member” of a local charity, you will make a case of for your favorite organization and have the opportunity to benefit it in a huge way.

The most compelling team will win $500 for their charity, receive a special certificate of achievement, and, most importantly, know that they made a real difference for the local community.

Enroll in Global Entrepreneur Academy and gain critical business, marketing, and strategy skills to develop real startup ventures. Students will have the chance to pitch their own ideas at the conclusion of the Academy and win awards for the best new startups
