Academic Resources

 

Guidance by Grade Level
  • 9th and 10th Grade

    • Learn to master your planner! What you learn in Inquiry Skills will help you throughout your IB journey!​

    • Create a file folder including:

      • report cards

      • awards and honors you receive

      • a list of school clubs/sports you are involved in (including leadership positions)

      • a list of community organizations and volunteer opportunities you have taken advantage of

      •  a list of jobs/employment opportunities you have held

    • Start thinking about college!

      • ​Future Plans is a great resource if you are unsure what you want to do (completed through your US history course in 10th grade)

      • 10th grade: start thinking about what college/university you want to attend and WHY

    • If you will be filling out the FAFSA for federal financial aid, keep your tax information! You can apply as early as October 1st of your senior year and must use your tax info from 2 years prior.​

    • Keep practicing your skills over the summer!

  • 11th grade

    • ​Take the NMSQT in the fall; click here for more information on the NMSQT

    • Study for the Re-designed SAT and ACT â€‹

      • see above for test prep resources

    • ​Recommended time to take the SAT/ACT the first time: December-April of your Junior year

    • AVID College Resources 2017

    • Start taking college tours 

    • Narrow down your potential majors

    • Continue to keep a file on your awards, accomplishments, etc.

 

  • 12th grade

    • ​Take any remaining college tours you have not yet taken

    • If you are interested in Early Decision/Early Action make sure you have asked your recommenders at least 3 weeks before the deadline.

      • ​If you need a letter of recommendation from me (Mrs. Wolfe), you must schedule an interview with me at least 2 weeks prior to your deadline.

    • ​Look at current scholarships (see scholarships tab on this website!)

    • Complete the FFAA (this is required for Bright Futures) and the FAFSA for federal student financial aid 

    • Mark in your calendar all deadlines: scholarships, applications, major projects, events, etc.

    • Keep your grades up! The last thing you want to happen is lose a college acceptance or scholarship...

    • If you have any questions or concerns see Mrs. Wolfe in guidance because I can't read minds! :)
